Granada is one of Spain's treasures and is a hot-spot for tourists in both the peak and off-peak seasons.  Granada has long been at the centre of Spain's history, with inhabitants living in the area for as long as records and science can trace.  Moorish forces used Granada as a administrative and cultural centre, leading to the establishment of the Muslim Nasrid Kingdom and the famous Alhambra complex.  In the fifteenth century Ferdinand and Isabella of Aragon conquered the region and brought it back under Christian control.  Such a history has left architectural marks on the city, with the Palace of Charles V, the Cathedral of Grenada, the Albayzin and the Sacromonte Abbey amongst the many sights worth visiting.  Grenada is also located within easy driving distance of Sierra Nevada, perfect for skiing, as well as the towns of Santa Fe and Cordoba.

Granada is serviced by Federico Garcia Lorca Grenada-Jaen Airport, located approximately ten kilometres to the west of the city along the Autovia A92.  The airport is not particularly busy but does receive a number of international flights including some from the United Kingdom (Ryan Air flies from Liverpool, London Stansted and East Midlands).  For car hire from the airport look out for Avis, Europcar, Goldcar, Solmar and Auriga Crown, all of which are located near the arrivals gate.  Grenada can be quite hot in the summer months with temperatures often reaching over 30°C, so it is advisable to rent a car with an air-conditioner.
